A Resounding Message: Isaiah 40:1-5; Luke 3:1-6

A Resounding Message: Isaiah 40:1-5; Luke 3:1-6 What kind of messages do we pay attention to?

A message that calls us to:

1) A _________________________

1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.

2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her

that her hard service has been completed,

that her sin has been paid for,

that she has received from the Lord’s hand

double for all her sins.

- Why did the Israelites need comfort?

- Why do we need comfort today?

2) A _________________________

3 A voice of one calling:

“In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD;

make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be raised up,

every mountain and hill made low;

the rough ground shall become level,

the rugged places a plain.

- What obstacles were in the way of the Israelites?

- What obstacles do we need to clear today?

3) A _________________________

5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,

and all people will see it together.

For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

- What is the invitation for all people?

4) A _________________________

…The word of God came to John ... 3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet…

- Since John the Baptist is associated with “the voice” from Isaiah 40:3, what does that mean for us today?
