Lucas Sawmill Planer Attachment Flattening Large Walnut Slab With Metal In It "TIPS & TRICKS"!!! Something everyone with a Lucas Planer should watch! We use our Lucas Sawmill Planer Attachment a lot for flattening large wood slabs and when the carbide cutters get broke from hitting large chunks of metal it kind of sucks. So this is a video showing you all what we do! We tend to plane around the larger pieces of metal that we just plan to leave in finished table tops to add to the story of the wood, and avoid digging big holes in the slab. That leaves a proud spot on the slab which we grind off with a grinder or sander.
We put up this how to video so you could all see how we flatten large slabs with out busting up all the carbide cutters on our Lucas Sawmill Planer Head. These planer attachments are pretty awesome, but the carbide inserts don't really like big pieces on imbedded metal. For our operation we have found no machine that is better suited for double duty as both a sawmill and a planer for large live edge slab flattening! This machine really makes things all that much easier for us in our woodworking shop.
