Former Giants quarterback ‘fighting with everything he has’ in intensive care unit

Former Giants quarterback ‘fighting with everything he has’ in intensive care unit Former Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen was admitted to an intensive care unit over the weekend where he’s fighting for his life.  News of the 1998 Kentucky Mr. Football winner’s medical issues were confirmed by his family, according to Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones, who posted their message on Twitter. “On Friday, June 28, Jared began playing a bigger, more important game than he’s ever played before," the family reports. "Jared had not been feeling well for a few weeks and that finally caught up with him. He was brought to the hospital and fairly quickly was admitted to the ICU. Jared is battling an infection, kidney and heart issues. He is fighting with everything he has and his immediate family is by his side. We will attempt to update as often as possible, but please respect that some aspects of this journey are private matters.”  The 6′4 play caller was a back-up for Big Blue from 2005 through 2008 where he suited up for four games and completed half of the eight passes he threw, according to NFL.com. Lorenzen won a championship ring as Eli Manning’s understudy in Super Bowl XLII, which was his last year in the league despite being signed and dropped by the Indianapolis Colts during the following preseason.  Lorenzen was a standout quarterback at Kentucky, where he led his high school team to a state championship before attending the University of Kentucky. In college, he shattered several Wildcat passing records before being inducted into the school’s hall of fame in 2015. He still holds the school record for all-purpose yards, completions, total passing yards and most yardage passed for in a single game, according to USA Today.  The left-handed quarterback struggled with his weight, reportedly topping out at over 500 pounds after leaving the NFL. Lorenzen said in April 2018 that he’d taken off 100 pounds — 70% of which he lost in six weeks.
