No Gi Rolling With My 140lbs White Belt (Keeping A Constant Flow)

No Gi Rolling With My 140lbs White Belt (Keeping A Constant Flow) In today’s video I show narrated roll with one of my White Belts during one of my no gi Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes. I did this video in response to some messages I’ve received about doing a narrated roll and also about how I “take it easy” on some of my White Belts during rolling. This video will give you an example of how I like to roll with many of my less experienced training partners.

In the video you’ll see me exchanging movement with John. While I do roll really hard sometimes and give no space, I find that this type of rolling has a lot of benefits.

1. It allows me a chance to practice moves, techniques and ideas in live situations during BJJ training without the threat of being destroyed if I make a mistake.
2. It allows my partner with less experience to engage and try their own techniques out.
3. By focusing on constantly moving I improve my scrambling ability and even my cardio for rolling.
4. Another side benefit is that from a coaching stand point I get to feel what my students are up to and what could be useful to teach them in the future.

Over the years it’s valuable to learn how to shift your mindset and physical aggression into different gears. If you’ve watch my rolls in competition then you know I can “turn it on” when needed. But I don’t need to access that level of aggression everyday.

I hope that whether you’re new or more experienced that this video is useful to you and your training.

Thanks for watching!
