After a couple days of rest following the first show of the tour, the band are back on track, playing the first of two nights in Dublin. Queen played only four shows in Ireland through their career (one in 1979, two in 1984, and one in 1986), likely limiting their exposure in the country due to the political tensions there. Queen were known for playing God Save the Queen at the end of their shows, and they were issued bomb threats if they were to play it tonight, so for this show, the band play the Races overture to signal the end of the concert instead. As for the performance, it's a fantastic one. Being early in the tour, Freddie still sounds excellent. In fact, you could make the case that this is the last time he ever sounded this good on stage (although some of the Japan shows from the following year certainly challenge that). Most songs tonight are performed with excellence, but it's at this point in the tour where Roger switches to the electronic drums for Another One Bites the Dust, so that's a bit of a let down. Overall this is a solid show which, like Brussels, shows how fantastic this tour could have been if the band were able to keep up with themselves.
