Good News, Efficiency to Strengthen PNP Gets Encouragement with 4 New Helicopters!

Good News, Efficiency to Strengthen PNP Gets Encouragement with 4 New Helicopters! The Philippine National Police (PNP) obtained more helicopters and other equipment as part of PHP3 billion worth of equipment to further enhance operational capability and visibility.

Major General Jose Ma. Victor Ramos, chairman of the Bid and Awards Committee on Monday presented to the responsible PNP official, Lieutenant General Archie Gamboa, newly acquired police equipment of PHP3,030,928,724 sourced from the Capacity Building Program for the 2012-2016 calendar year, 2018, and 2019, 2018 Regular Agency Fund and Presidential Contingency Fund.

Gamboa said the delivery of two R44 training helicopters, a Bell 429 twin-engine helicopter and an Airbus H125 single-engine helicopter would be a major driver in the police law enforcement function in terms of air support.

"We now have five (helicopters) and five more to come, two towards the end of this year and three more in the middle of next year," Gamboa told reporters after the blessing of new police equipment was purchased at PNP Grandstand, Camp Crame in Quezon City.

This aircraft complements the Airbus H125 single-engine helicopter that was previously sent to the organization.

The other five helicopters that will be sent are all from Airbus, according to Gamboa.

Gamboa said two R44 helicopters would be used to train police pilots in anticipation of more air asset procurement in the future.

Two training helicopters delivered by Lion Air Inc. represented by Michael Maligat, head of the Public Sector Project Delivery Team and three others.

In a separate interview, Maligat said the two new R44 training helicopters were worth PHP76 million.

The procurement of these helicopters began during the days of the PNP and now Senator Ronald dela Rosa.

"The R44 is okay for surveillance and reconnaissance training before the pilot switches to attack the helicopter. As individuals of a corporate entity, we all must do what we can to support initiatives to improve law enforcement, for the benefit of all, "he added.

Besides helicopters, 51 drones were also sent; 21,992 units of Galil 5.56mm Basic Assault Rifles; 1,667 K2C units 5.56mm Basic Assault Rifles; 205 units of K3 Light Machine Gun 5.56mm; eight units of NEGEV 5.56mm Submachine Guns; 141 units of 7.62mm NEGEV Submachine Gun; 18,354 9mm pistol units and 7,962 helmet units.

Assault rifles, machine guns and helmets will be used by elite PNP units such as the Special Action Forces.

Also sent were 21 K9 Patrol Vehicle units from the Explosive and Ordnance Division and 34 utility truck units.

Gamboa said utility trucks would be useful in organizing the Southeast Asian Games in the country.

"Before these trucks are sent to the area, they will be used for the Southeast Asian Games until December 11," Gamboa said.

Gamboa said PNP saved a lot of money from procurement, especially on assault weapons.

For example, he said each Galil assault rifle was only bought for PHP68,000 compared to more than PHP160,000 per piece purchased by other law enforcement units.

Gamboa said the latest additions were part of the ongoing efforts of the PNP leadership and the national government to improve the firepower, mobility, and tactical capabilities of PNP operations units.
