Four cooling towers at the Ferrybridge power station in West Yorkshire, England, were demolished in a “significant milestone in the history of the UK energy industry”.
More than 100 homes were evacuated and roads were closed around the site during the demolition.
The landmark towers collapsed in a controlled explosion at the junction of the A1(M) and M62 motorways.
Ferrybridge produced energy for the UK for 50 years before owner SSE decided to close the site in 2016 as part of the company’s transition to low-carbon energy.
