My Recommendations for Japan:
Get a suica card (500 yen) and you can return it and get your money back after, it’s so much easier getting around and you can use it to pay for stuff
Get on the trains! It’s very tempting to get a taxi/ Uber everywhere but it’s honestly double the price. We went from shinjuku to shibuya which cost us over 1,500 yen by cab but on the train it was 150 yen! Literally 10x more expensive!
Most lines that you need are the Shinjuku/ Yamanote lines that are most popular are apart of the JR line so if you can’t see any signs just follow the signs for JR railway
Pork is heavily used in a lot of Japanese cooking, especially in Ramen (it’s all from pork bone broth!). There is a lot of fish/seafood everywhere so sometimes it is abit tricky finding food if you don’t like certain things, a lot of times they don’t customise dishes. They also LOVE egg in Japan, it’s nearly in every dish and they love eating raw egg.
Hardly anywhere takes card so make sure you have cash all the time! Have a small purse for your coins because you get so much change here!
You are going to walk soooo much, even just walking through the station is like a 10/15 minute walk and it’s very easy to get lost. Bring comfy shoes!!!!
There’s hardly no free WiFi anywhere (unless you are near a hotel or Starbucks)- I definitely reccomend getting WiFi boxes, it is better than SIM cards and you can connect muiltiple devices do one WiFi box. You can rent these at the airport
Hotel rooms are super small unless your paying big bucks and staying quite far out, I reccomend staying In Shinjuku or Shibuya for a good mix of food, bars, nightlife and shopping!
The prices aren’t as cheap as normal Asian countries, shopping was actually very similar prices to London. Have abit more spending money just in case, I ran out of money and needed to find a cash machine
Research food places / things you want to do and take screen shots of the addresses. We used google maps everywhere to show us what trains to get and it even tells you what platform to get on at.
Download google translate! It allows you to use a camera and scan anything in Japanese and it will convert it to English, it’s amazing! (Only works with internet connection)
We took the airport limousine bus from our hotel to the airport and it was totally fine! It cost us 3,200 yen each for a 2 hour bus ride from shinjuku, a taxi would of cost us over 25,000 yen!
I get my music from Epidemic sounds (copy right free music!)
