Prof. Rhulani Hanyane on the state of governance in the North West There have been two high profile arrests in the North West in August 2019. Suspended head of the Health Department Thabo Lekalakala was arrested for fraud. He appeared in court and was granted R20 000 bail. Former North West Finance MEC Wendy Nelson also appeared in court for fraud and was also granted R20 000 bail.
Some believe this is part of a clean-up campaign by law enforcement authorities after the North West province was placed under the administration of central government.
