We repeatedly carry out load tests on suction cups as part of the product monitoring obligation. We also try to find rules for the replacement of suction cups. In this test, a 388-K suction cup was tested after approx. 18 months to determine its load carrying capacity. We have recorded this on video. Another question is whether cleaning with methylated spirits is really able to increase carrying capacity. We also explored this question in the video.
Vacuum lifting devices should always be able to hold double the nominal load according to EU standard EN 13155. For this to be achieved, the individual suction cup must also have a sufficient carrying capacity.
However, the time across which this load should be held is not exactly defined. However, the device should be able to hold the nominal load for 5 minutes if the power fails.
We therefore perform this test with a time of 5 minutes.
