The UN Security Council on Friday began a rare closed door meeting to discuss India revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir after Pakistan, backed by its all-weather ally, China, requested "closed consultations" on the issue. The outcome of the UNSC meeting will not be a formal pronouncement as the consultations are informal in nature. India and Pakistan are not attending the meeting, which is open only to the five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members.

China, a permanent member of the UNSC and close ally of Pakistan, had asked for "closed consultations" in the Council, which began its deliberations at 10 am (7:30pm IST) in the Security Council Consultations Room.

Syed Akbaruddin: These have no external ramifications, the recent decisions taken by the Government of India and our legislative bodies are intended to ensure that good governance is promoted, social-economic development is enhanced for our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
When a Pakistani journalist asked the India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin about when will New Delhi begin a dialogue with Pakistan, he replied, “So let me start by coming across to you and shaking hands. All three of you.”

जम्मू-कश्मीर से अनुच्छेद 370 को निष्प्रभावी किए जाने के भारत के फैसले पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद (यूएनएससी) में बंद कमरे में चर्चा शुरू हो गई है। बैठक के इतर यूएन में भारत के स्थायी प्रतिनिधि सैयद अकबरुद्दीन ने मीडिया से कहा- अनुच्छेद 370 भारतीय संविधान के मुताबिक पूरी तरह हमारा आंतरिक मसला है। जम्मू-कश्मीर का फैसला वहां के विकास के लिए हुआ। उन्होंने कहा कि हम धीरे-धीरे कश्मीर से प्रतिबंधों को हटाने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हैं।

अकबरुद्दीन ने कहा- पाकिस्तान जिहाद की बात करके हिंसा को भड़का रहा है। अपना लक्ष्य पूरा करने के लिए वह आतंकवाद को बढ़ावा दे रहा है, कोई लोकतांत्रिक देश ऐसा नहीं करता है। हम पाकिस्तान से बात तब करेंगे, जब वह आतंकवाद खत्म कर देगा। पहले आतंकवाद बंद करो और फिर बातचीत होगी।
