Kitui governor Charity Ngilu is again on the spot and war with the county employees for delaying their June 2019 salary without a clear reason for the salaries delay. The joint union of workers in Kitui county have threatened to strike, the workers have issued seven days ultimatum for strike notice if the governor will not have paid them.
Led by the kitui secretary general for workers union Benjamin Munyalo he said they will not just down tool but also demonstrate to governors office demanding to know where their salary is.
The workers have refused to abide to the internal memo which was send to them last week from the county secretaries office alerting them to be patient as the salary will delay as the Kitui assembly failed to approve the supplementary budget which was to cater for their salaries.
The workers said they were aware that the salaries money is not factored in the supplementary budget which was only made for development funds.
The bitter workers want the governor to get them money for salaries and came out clear where their June salaries had been taken.
Speaking to the Kitui majority leader Peter Kilonzo he confirmed that the fund for salaries is approved once a financial year begins to cater for the 12months.
He said if the executive had ‘eaten’ salaries money like they are used to development funds to tell the workers the truth and stop blaming the assembly for not approving the supplementary budget.
The assembly rejected supplementary budget a week ago as the executive were asking for the second supplementary budget in the financial year 2018/2019 and was not following the legal laws.
Now the poor workers are suffering for the serious financial inconveniences as they are tiptoeing to the house fearing the landlord and their children have been chased out of schools.
The union said this was the second time they were facing the salary delay even after agreeing to be paid before 5th of the month.
The said Ngilu should follow the steps of the last regime which used to pay employees on every 26th date of the month.
They said they are civil servants and they should not be told about the executive and the assembly differences as they needed salary after every end month without delay
