Mountain Safety: Should I Climb the Harder 14ers with a Mountain Guide?

Mountain Safety: Should I Climb the Harder 14ers with a Mountain Guide? Most of Colorado's 14ers are physically demanding hikes on well-developed trails or moderate off-trail scrambling. But about 10 are significantly more difficult in terms of route finding, objective hazards and the potential for serious--if not fatal--accidents.

If you want to finish the 14ers, consider hiring a mountain guide for the hardest peaks. As these guides, mountain rescuers and and experienced climbers relate, climbing with a guide can be a great way to reach the summit safely, as well as learn valuable climbing tips en route.

REALITY. Climbing is inherently dangerous! People die on Colorado 14ers every year.

NO GUARANTEE. CFI’s goal is to provide you with education and perspective. Our videos do not address all climbing risks. Viewing the videos does not guarantee your safety!

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! Be fit. Get educated. Be aware. If you choose to climb, you accept and assume the inherent and other risks. You remain responsible for your decisions, your actions and your adventure!
