Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt, Commons should have opportunity to question new PM - Sarah Wollaston

Speaking in the House of Commons, Independent MP Sarah Wollaston (Totnes) said the Commons should have an opportunity to question the new prime minister, whether it is Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt or former foreign secretary Boris Johnson, before the summer recess.

She said: "This is an extremely grave situation because what we are seeing is probably around a quarter of one per cent of the population will be selecting the next prime minister at an absolutely crucial time in our history."

She said whoever is chosen to be the next prime minister needs to go before the Commons without an "extended" summer recess "getting in the way".
