Salt has been around for thousands of years. Once it was a highly traded item and even used as a currency. Nowadays, there are different types of salts to choose from.... Fine, coarse, free flowing, kosher, pink, black, Himalayan, sea, Iodised , rock ....... Then you hear all sorts of news about salts ..... All salts got additives, Salt is not good for body, Salt increases blood pressure, Salt ages your skin, Salt reduces your brain power, Some salts are less salty ..... Common salt, or chemically Sodium Chloride, contains about 40% of sodium . In general all salts you take, this content is almost the same. Average recommended maximum intake of sodium is about 2300 mg. For easy understanding, its about one tea spoon of salt per day.But more salts are found in processed and preserved foods. So you are consuming them unknowingly, eventhough you are reducing the salts that you are adding to your cooking. But the fact is - OUR BODY NEEDS SODIUM for proper functioning of fluid balance and nerve signalling Table salt is heavily processed salt , made from mining from underground salt deposits. Anti caking agents like Sodium Aluminosilicate or Magnesium Carbonate are added - to make it free flowing. Sometimes Potassium Iodide is added to make it Iodised salt Fine, Coarse etc are prepared based on the texture needed. Sea salt - made by evaporating sea water and so may not be pure white in colour. This is the original salt we all started using ages ago. This is non processed and so may contain more minerals in natural form. But it can not be considered as the major source of all those minerals, which is better to consume through fruits and vegetables. Rock salts are mined and compared to sea salts, they are already in solid state. Rock salt like Himalayan salt is said to have about 84 different types of minerals. As per Ayurveda, Rock salt is the superior to all. It is recommended as an alternative for table salt for persons with Hyper tension. Weight loss is all about having the right food in the right manner supported by right activities ...... Rock salt may enhance metabolism - there by assist in fat and calorie burning Rock Salt may reduce craving due to mineral equilisation Rock Salts may assist in getting rid of dead fat cells too ....
