QUESTIONS OVER HINDU PUSH UP - READ THIS...

I see a lot of comments over the Hindu Push Up term and on the push up we are sharing. So I wanted to answer them here. Plus you’ll also see some Cool Hindu Training in the videos I share below :)

First, from the experts we’ve studied, the push up we show in the video is not a true Hindu push-up and we would be criticized for calling it that. As I’ll show below, it is slightly different.

However, it is very similar.

And that’s why, for those who missed it, @0:53, we say at the beginning "as you can see this is VERY SIMILAR to the Hindu Push Up but with a few modifications"

To clarify, here’s some extra background on the Hindu Push Up:

The "Hindu Push Up" term itself can be a little misleading because there are technically several different Hindu Push Up Variations.

These are specifically called Dand's and there are 12 of them.

Which if you haven’t checked them out before, each Dand is unique, entertaining to watch, and can be powerful exercises for fitness.

Many are demonstrated here by World Renowned Guru Swami Ramdev:

& Youtuber Versatile Shubham:

The popularized Hindu Push Up in the west is commonly derived from either the Sadharan Dand or Ram Murti Dand

As you can see in the video demonstrations above these two are similar but slightly different technique and forms are used.

Here are several examples demonstrating the Hindu Push Up or Dand from many native Indians, ranging from Yoga Gurus, Instructors, and Athletes.

As you can see the techniques are quite unique…

The elbows/forearms don’t make contact with the ground. If they do it is very lightly and not a focused position, like in ours.

You will also see the pace and rhythm is fast & quick.

There is a strong emphasis on the hip thrust.

Also a strong arch with the back. And focused head movement looking through the shoulders and towards the sky.

And many cases they will reverse back in the same motion.

The push up we demonstrate in the video is performed at a slower, controlled tempo.

It places clear and strong emphasis on the forearm placement on the ground.

We do not arch as much with the back.

And the version we trained with the Yamakasi, we applied an additional push up at the end, as demonstrated in the Ninja version.

So we could have called this a Hindu Push up, however, from my understanding, for a true Hindu Push Up or Ram Murti/Sadharan Dand, it would be wrong to say that they are the exact same from the Push Up we demonstrate in this video.

And this comes back to what was mentioned at the beginning of the video - ”This is very similar to the Hindu push up but with a few modifications"

If we were to film a video on the "Hindu Push Up" we would go into more of the details shared above and more of the history/origin.

However, this push up is what we learned form training with the Yamakasi, it's similar to the Hindu Push Up but slightly different. And the focus was more on the Yamakasi's story and influence. However, we made sure to give reference to the Hindu Push Up due to the similarity.

PS:
In the past I have found a couple of trainers who teach the "Hindu push up" with an emphasis or step using the forearms. This is a minority and I would say a modified version as well of the true Hindu push up or Sadharan Dand / Ram Murti Dand
